A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Samson Gidamayi, on Saturday, said the Oyo prison jailbreak has exposed the poor security system in the country.
Olanrewaju Anjorin, Public Relations Officer of the command confirmed that 837 awaiting trial inmates escaped from the Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo Town when suspected gunmen attacked the facility.
Gidamayi, who is currently lecturing at Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna noted that the security system in the country has deteriorated to the extent that bandits and criminal elements choose were to attack at their disposal.
Speaking to DAILY POST in Kaduna on Saturday evening, Gidamayi lamented that nowhere is safe, so long as those criminal elements continued to terrorize humans in every nook and crannies of the country
According to him, there is no way those escaped criminals from the Abolongo in Oyo prison will all return, as the hidden criminals may rejoin their colleagues to continue their nefarious attitudes.
“My brother nowhere is safe. I have a personal house somewhere in Kaduna, but I have vacated the house because of a security threat. My wife and children were taken to a safe place. I have no permanent place to sleep
“The rate at which criminals are gaining ground, it is obvious that no single Nigerian is safe. You can be a military officer, security personnel, the situation is so bad that no one is safe,” he further said
Every day we hear of security defeating terrorists, yet no one sleeps with their two eyes closed.”
He advised the federal government to speed up the trial of prison inmates so that the guilty and criminal-minded ones are given the appropriate punishment they deserve.
“If there is speed trial and quick dispensation of Justice, some hardened criminals who were sentenced to death, are wasted away, we wouldn’t have criminal-minded elements that will come to defend them through jailbreak and other forms for them to be freed,” he further added.
